Short-Sighted

Call me biased because I'm married to an unemployed Geologist, but....the comments that Gov. Bobby Jindal made last night about the money in the stimulus bill going to the USGS was very short-sighted.  Jindal delivered the GOP response to Obama's speech last night.  The first part of Jindal's response (about the first 2-3 mins) seemed pretty bi-partisan and vanilla.  Then he launches into the standard "liberal-over spending WA government that's secretly trying to make us all Socialists" mantra and turns into a top-notch douche bag.  Apparently, the mayor of a small town near the still active Mt. St. Helens (which I can see from our hill where we live on a clear day) was pretty put off by Jindal's comments  as well.  As the Governor of Louisiana I would think he would be more insightful into the results of natural disasters, like volcano's exploding, earthquakes and hurricanes!??

One More Saturday Night

So we didn't get our wish of a few Phish shows at The Gorge but what we are getting is just about as good....The Dead, Allman Brothers & Doobie Brothers, Sat May 16th!!  The best venue, friends, and old school music...woot!  Tickets go on sale Tuesday....we're so there!!

Moving in the Right Direction

It did not get dark until about 6pm today.  The days are starting to get longer, slowly but surely.  I feel like I'm starting to come out of my gray winter haze.  My tendency to hibernate is beginning to dwindle.  The bulbs are peeking up from the ground about two or three inches now.  It won't be long before there are colorful flowers everywhere.  Ahhh, how I love the transition to Spring.  Soon enough we will be turning the clocks forward and the long days will be upon us.  I feel like I get so much more done in the warm, light months.  When it is dark at 4pm I don't have much ambition to get out and do much of anything after work.  It's bedtime as far as I'm concerned.  The early onset of Spring here in Oregon is one thing I really love.  It becomes very clear to me when I speak to my family back East at this time of year how much more mild the climate is here.  Tonight as I was walking my dogs around the neighborhood loop we saw the most beautiful sunset sky; all red and orange.  When you get to the top of the big hill on our loop and turn and look to the East you see Mt. Hood in all it's snow-capped glory.  The white jagged mountain top is so stark against the blue sky.  It takes my breath away every time.
