Last night I had the pleasure of attending a book reading and signing by one of my favorite authors, Jodi Picoult. I was literally giggly and excited all afternoon yesterday thinking of meeting her! I gathered up my fresh hard copy of her newest book, Change of Heart, as well as a copy of one of my all time favs, My Sister's Keeper to have signed and headed out to Powell's in Beaverton after work. This is not a familiar area of Portland that I have really explored before so I was armed with my directions and I mad
e it there with perfect timing. I got a seat right in the front and chatted and bonded with some older women sitting next to me.
Jodi was great! She read an excerpt from her newest book and then took a number of questions from the audience (which was packed!). She sounded so familiar in her speaking; educated and funny just as I imagined she would be....and of course she's from New Hampshire so I knew she would be cool! I lucked out and was one of the first to get to meet her after she spoke. She signed her newest novel to me and I had her sign my copy of My Sister's Keeper "To Katie & Jill" in honor of my sister.
I'm so glad Jodi was able to stop in Portland this time around and I got to meet my favorite author who just happens to live about thirty minutes from where I grew up. I know this is part of why I love her books....the setting often is in New England and I can see the surroundings so clearly. This and the fact that she takes on some intense, current and timeless themes in her books....and keeps on delivering!
